A family passion for stone, in its second generation.

Sticks & Stones was started by Garrison Scott, who trained in forestry, served in the US Army, and found masonry through a night class in 1977 after years spent photographing the old stone walls of New York and Pennsylvania. It became his life’s work. He built homes and buildings across the Carolinas as a licensed General Contractor specialising in masonry hardscapes, and was a registered land surveyor in six states, but stonework was always the part he loved.

He was involved in every project personally and worked alongside his son Russell for more than a decade. Russell runs the company now and still oversees the jobs himself. The result is a patio and stone contractor that is genuinely local, genuinely family owned, and has been laying stone around Raleigh since 1996.
